It’s amazing what a year can do…

It has been a long time since our last blog and a lot has happened.

My grandmother, father’s mother, passed away unexpectedly during the early morning hour of October 8th.  My Grandma Lindsey was discovered on Saturday morning, October 4th in her home where she lived independently.  She had had a massive stroke as well as a smaller stroke.  I flew home with Gwyn on Sunday and was so glad to make it home before she passed.  We spent 2 1/2 long days in the hospital.  Gwyn and I went to dinner with my grandparents on my mom’s side on Tuesday night and I had sensed that my Grandma Lindsey’s breathing had changed during that day.  I went back out to the hospital and got to spend a good hour and a half with her by myself.  I feel very grateful that I had that time with her.  She will be missed dearly.

With death comes life.  We found out that Scott and Toni are expecting a little boy in March.  We are so excited to have a little boy in the family!!!  We are so excited to have good news and know that Scott, Toni, and Bella are looking forward to the new addition.

While my heart is healing from the loss of my grandma, I have Gwyn to keep me ever so busy.  She is learning new things every day and growing so fast.  She had her first haircut.  It was more of a trim.  Her bangs were getting into her eyes and her hair is too fine to hold a barrett, so we got her bangs cut.  Here she is sitting so still while getting her bangs trimmed.

Gwyn also attended her first parade; however, she was much happier when the bands were playing music.  I was a little disappointed in the amount of actual entertainers in the parade, with the election year it was mainly politicians in fancy cars…boring for a near one year old.  However, she discovered at the party that she loves those cars they have for little kids to peddle around in.  I just thought this picture is so cute.

We also took Gwyn to her first pumpkin patch.  She got to pick out a pumpkin and take her first tractor hay ride.  She was more interested in the straps on the camera bag though…so maybe more fun next year.  Though it has been warm, this particular day was quite cool in the shade so we bought her a hat and mittens.  Needless to say, they are too big…here is Gwyn looking defeated by the mittens.

Here are two more pictures.  The dress was provided by Nana Brassine!  It is just too cute.

Me and Gwyn

It is hard to believe that a year ago, almost to the day, that I went into labor with Gwyn.  Halloween will always be special to me, even though it isn’t Gwyn’s birthday…it is the day I knew that we would meet her sooner rather than later.  I remember coming home from work, where my water had broke, to find Brian breathlessly running around the house cleaning up after the animals and cleaning in general.  I had to tell him to calm down, relax, and eat something before we left for the hospital.

My mom, little brother, and Dan were out celebrating Dan’s birthday that happens to fall on Halloween.  After they had their dinner, my mom and DJ left for North Carolina.  They drove all night while I labored all night.  Finally, at 8 am I was ready to push, but my mom was only 30 minutes away.  I was so worried that Gwyn would arrive before my mom could make it.  However, 30 minutes later when my mom arrived, I was STILL pushing.  Gwyn had different plans in mind and after nearly 2 1/2 hours of pushing, she was delivered by C-section at 10:38 am on Thursday, November 1, 2007.  This has been the best day of my life so far!

So this is me almost one year ago…although I was only about 36 weeks pregnant here…hard to believe I had two more weeks to get even bigger before I went into labor.

Pregnant Rach

Granted, this isn’t a belly shot…but I look totally different in just one year.  I’m also 15 pounds lighter than I was prior to getting pregnant.

And here was Gwyn while we were still in the hospital…

Newborn

I often wonder if I enjoyed my pregnancy enough, enjoyed those first 2 1/2 months enough (those who know us well know why – colic!), and enjoyed this past year enough.  I feel like I’m forever going without a break.  With the passing of my Grandma, I realize I need a change in pace and I think good things are coming for our family!

In the upcoming week, Grammy is coming to visit from PA.  We are celebrating our first Halloween with our cousins Lexie and Layla.  Gwyn is going to be a lamb (costume made by me with help from a dear friend at work-Dawn) and Layla is going to be Little Bo Peep.  We are going to Kinston to celebrate and trick or treat.  Then home to host Gwyn’s first birthday party on Saturday.  It is supposed to be a perfect Carolina fall day.  I swear, I’ll never leave this state unless they take me kicking and screaming!

Have a wonderful week everyone…until I “make” Brian post a much more exciting recap next week, I hope you enjoyed the pictures above.
